Marque Sussex intend to be carbon negative by funding targeted off-setting projects. We are committed to supporting the UNA Eastbourne Muvule Project in Uganda. Our monthly contribution pays for the replanting of well in excess of 20 trees a month.
Muvule is well known in the UK as Iroko, a durable and attractive hardwood. It is less appreciated for its incredible abilities as a carbon sink and improver of soil fertility. In fact, one Iroko can capture 4-5 times more carbon than a British-grown Oak tree.
This trio of qualities makes Iroko a hugely important asset and yet thousands of trees are felled for logging and infrastructure. With slow efforts to replant, Iroko is fast becoming an endangered species.
The Muvule Project works to correct this imbalance. By replanting Iroko and its companion trees, this vital resource is preserved and a valuable asset returned to the local economy, for the benefit of current and future generations.
